A little preparation can make a wheelchair transportation ride smoother, safer, and more comfortable. Use this checklist before pickup so the passenger, family, facility, and KAL Medical team are working from the same plan.
Confirm the trip details
Review the pickup address, destination, appointment time, and requested pickup window. If the building has a separate patient entrance, security desk, or loading zone, share those instructions in advance.
Describe the wheelchair
Tell us whether the passenger uses a manual or power wheelchair and provide any relevant size or equipment details. Let us know if the chair has removable footrests, oxygen equipment, or other accessories that need careful placement.
Check the pickup route
Make sure hallways, doorways, ramps, and elevators are accessible. Tell us about steps, steep slopes, gated entrances, apartment numbers, or anything that may require extra time. Clear a safe path from the passenger’s room or door to the vehicle.
Prepare the passenger
Choose comfortable clothing and secure loose personal items. Bring appointment paperwork, identification, medications needed during the trip, and a phone or contact list. The passenger should use the restroom and be ready before the confirmed pickup window whenever possible.
Plan for a companion
Let us know in advance if a family member, caregiver, or facility staff member will travel with the passenger. This helps us confirm seating and coordinate assistance.
Confirm the return ride
For a round trip, share the expected appointment length and the best contact person for the return. If the finish time is uncertain, ask about waiting-time or will-call coordination when requesting the trip.
Safety reminder
KAL Medical provides non-emergency transportation. If the passenger has a medical emergency or needs immediate clinical care, call 911 or the appropriate emergency service.
